Tips for a Stress-Free Vacation

Summer is finally here. With the kids out of school and the arrival of beautiful weather, it is an enjoyable time for everyone! Many of us like to spend the summer making travel plans and going to exciting places with friends and family. However, while the idea of traveling somewhere can be new and exciting, it can also be very stressful. The work required to plan the perfect vacation can hang on our shoulders. Sometimes we even forget that the whole point of going on vacation is to relax and have fun! Use these tips to leave the stress behind and focus on how to get the most of your time away from the norm; no matter who you’re going with or where you’re going.

  1. Plan Ahead

When traveling with a family or large group, it is always best to plan accommodations and all travel excursions as far in advance as possible. This will ensure that expectations are met and there will be no added surprises on your trip. Tensions can arise when one person is looking forward to the nightlife and another only budgeted enough to stay at the hotel or beach. Discuss these things before you go and plan accordingly to avoid added stressors.

  1. Choose your companions wisely.

When you’re on vacation you will typically be spending anywhere from a few days to a few weeks straight with your travel buddies. Make sure you choose to spend time with people you can handle being by your side for the duration of the trip. This will improve your overall experience and minimize frustration.

  1. Allow time to unwind.

Even though you’ve just arrived at your destination, it doesn’t mean you are entirely stress free. Studies show it can take up to three days to shed the stress of everyday life and reach a state of relaxation. Be sure to plan for some down time when scheduling vacation activities.

  1. Remember to refuel.

It is especially important to make sure you stay hydrated and keep your blood sugar at proper levels. Be sure to bring along a water bottle and energy bars during vacation activities so that when you are on the go, you always have something to keep you going! It will make a big difference in keeping your stress levels down and maintaining your sense of well-being.

  1. Take a deep breath.

Unexpected stress is inevitable to any trip. If your plan is delayed or a communication error arises, rather than feeling miserable or anxious, understand and accept that life is unexpected, even vacations. In this case, take a deep breath and listen to relaxing music, eat a yummy snack, and simply enjoy your time away.
